Calvary Independent Baptist Church

Calvary Independent Baptist Church wants to thank God for being very generous with blessing our lives, and we want to give Him all the praise for everything good in our lives today. However, we also want to remember the ones who are standing in need of prayer and need that special touch from the Great Physician. We also ask for prayer for the upcoming revival here at Calvary starting Sunday, Aug. 5 at 5:30 p.m. and then Monday through Friday, Aug. 6-10 starting at 6:30 each night.

The pastors of Calvary will be preaching each night. Our senior Pastor Oscar Mims preached a message Sunday in the 10 a.m. worship service on 1 Kings 17:17-24 on God being enough for even the new problems we face each day. Sunday night’s service included a message from Colossians 1:12-14 about the finished work on the cross of Jesus Christ, about how only the righteous shall inherit the kingdom of God. Believers who are saved today have been redeemed unto God through the shed blood of Jesus Christ, His finished work on the cross. We are neither righteous in ourselves nor of good works we have done; we have been made the righteousness of God in Christ.

Come visit with us this Sunday. We are located South of Clanton just past Dollar General right off 31 on Fulmer Drive.

Cedar Grove

I am so glad that several let me know they missed the Cedar Grove Church news. It makes me feel better to know that someone enjoys my column. As you can tell I am not a writer. I write like I am talking to you personally, and it comes from the heart.

We had a great Sunday School lesson taught by Bro. Shannon Bullard titled “The Kingdom Divided” (1 Kings 12:12-20, 26-29).

Golden Text: “Righteousness exalted a nation; but sin is a reproach to any people” (Proverbs14:34).

Well, the snake didn’t scare too many people last week but they came back this Sunday — I told all about him in last week’s news.

We welcome all our visitors. We were very happy to have you with us. Tell your friends and family about us; we need more choir singers. We have several youth classes, nursery and children’s church, so come on and join us.

Happy birthday to Mrs. Lois Cummings. Cody Hubbard will have a birthday on the 31st, and happy anniversary to Ralph and Juliet Hayes.

We have several on the prayer list; God Knows all about it. Bro. J.R. Lowery is in Room 408 at Chilton Medical Center as of yesterday.

Be much in prayer for Violet Porter Bridges, at this writing she is in Shelby Hospital CCU with congestive heart failure.

We had good singing before worship service; the Choir sang “Jesus Is Alive and Well,” Jordan Harvely sang “The Favorite Song of All” and Breanna Ellison blessed us by singing a beautiful song I didn’t get the name of.

Bro. Jeff Carroll preached a good sermon entitled “Are You Fighting for God?” from 2 Timothy 2:1-4 and Revelation 17:1-18.

The song of invitation was “Still Blessed” sung by Sis. Amelia Hubbard.

Several went to the altar to pray.
