Two Thorsby players make All-State

Two Thorsby players were named to the Alabama Sports Writers Association’s Baseball All-State team.

MORGAN

Matt Morgan, a sophomore catcher, made the Class 2A first team as a designated hitter. Teammate Jason Price, a senior, was named to the Honorable Mention list as a pitcher.

Morgan led the Rebels with a .485 batting average, 49 runs scored, 50 hits, five home runs, 29 walks 14 stolen bases. As a catcher, he threw out 24 of 31 would-be base stealers.

Price compiled a 2.04 earned run average. He struck out 94 batters and gave up 39 hits in 65 2/3 innings pitched.

At the plate, Price had a .415 batting average with 34 runs scored, 14 doubles and three home runs.

Thorsby finished the season with a 21-13 record in the quarterfinal round of the state playoffs.
