Chilton County’s baseball team advanced to the quarterfinals of the state Class 5A playoffs with a 6-3 win Saturday in the final game of a best-of-three series against Brookwood.

The two teams split two games on Friday, setting up Saturday’s decisive Game 3.

CCHS (33-6) will host Briarwood (28-6) this coming Friday with games scheduled on Friday at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. A third game would be played on Saturday at noon.

Sawyer Cahalane pitched the first four innings against Brookwood, and Cameron Cummings pitched the last three innings in relief, retiring nine of the last 10 batters he faced.

Trevor Thomas’s bases-loaded double in the fourth inning gave Chilton a lead it wouldn’t relinquish.
