Mustangs build big lead, win at VHS

Isabella won its second baseball game in three tries, 10-4, at Verbena on Thursday.

The Mustangs (2-4) have rebounded from an 0-3 start to the season.

They took advantage of some early Verbena miscues Thursday and benefitted from a strong start on the mound by Travis Williams.

Visiting IHS built an 8-1 lead through 2 1/2 innings thanks in part to five Verbena errors.

The Mustangs plated four runs in the top of the first inning and three runs in the second—without recording a base hit (the runs came on two walks and three errors).

In the third inning, a two-out double by Jacob Carroll drove home Aaron Ratliff.

Runners were on second and third when VHS starting pitcher Jessie Ellis induced a fly ball to end the inning, and the Devils then built some momentum with two runs in the bottom of the third.

Bay Lucas, Jacob Montgomery and Christian Coston recorded consecutive hits for the Red Devils.

But Williams regained control of the game in the fourth. He allowed three runs in five innings to earn the win.

Wade Jolley allowed one run in two innings of relief for Isabella.
