Gas company to host United Way benefit ride

A local natural gas company, Williams-Transco, will host a motorcycle ride next month to benefit United Way.

“Ride for the Cause” will leave Saturday, July 30 from the Clanton Walmart.

Event coordinator Patrick Aman said the ride is a new idea for the company.

“Williams-Transco has done charity work for years,” he said. “Usually, we do golf (tournaments), but this time we figured we’d try a motorcycle ride. We’ve also partnered with Walmart.”

The ride will leave from Walmart at 9 a.m. and will ride for approximately 150 miles round trip through Sylacauga, where a stop will be made at Road King Bike Shop. The ride will then continue on to Rockford and then back to Clanton for lunch and door prizes.

Aman said he hopes the ride can catch on and become an annual event.

“This being the first year, we’d love for 100 bikes to come,” he said. “But we’ll settle for half of that, too. We encourage anybody and everybody to come out. Every dime we raise, Williams-Transco matches.”

The cost per bike is $30, and $10 for an extra rider. For more information, contact Aman at 755-4131 ext. 2222.
