CAWACO presents grant to Thorsby

Thorsby School received a pair of grants from CAWACO RC&D during a presentation on Oct. 19.

The grants focused on improving the pavilion owned by the school that is used by the Thorsby FFA chapter and for other school events.

Kindles were purchased for the library for students to use, allowing a multitude of books to be downloaded.

CAWACO RC&D has given grants in the past to Thorsby to the tune of about $20,000 invested in grants in recent years.

According to Pam Price, on the school board, the land where the pavilion sits was bought about five years ago.

The pavilion was built the next year and everything has been falling into place since then.

After the construction of the pavilion came the green house followed by the walking trail, which is being used by classes to bird watch and identify plant species.

The walking trail grant was just issued last year, so it is the first year that it has been used.

The pavilion and walking trail are in close proximity and as the presentation was taking place, a class was taking a tour of the trail.
