Parent Project graduates first class

A graduate of the Parent Program receives their degree.

The Chilton County Wellness Group, LLC, graduated its first Parent Project class Wednesday.

The Parent Project is a 10-week class designed to assist parents that have unruly or out-of-control teenagers. The class teaches parents the proper techniques for handling adolescents that exhibit destructive behavior.

“It gives specific info on how to handle certain problems,” said facilitator Jeremy Smith. “It gives parents a chance to have more control over what happens at home.”

The first class graduated 13 adults and eight teenagers, and the second class began shortly after. While Smith said the idea is to keep classes together, if there is a need, a class can be formed.

“We have enough facilitators that we’re at a point where we can always start another class,” he said. “Just because the date says we’ll start our next one the 31st of August doesn’t mean we have to wait until then.”

Smith also invited any parent who is interested to attend.

“We encourage anyone to come,” he said. “It’s open to the general public.”
