Davis elected to second term

Chilton County voters decided Tuesday to give Sheriff Kevin Davis four more years in office.

Davis, running on the Republican ticket, received 74.1 percent, or 10,099 ballots, of the vote during the General Election to challenger Terry Wilson’s 25.2 percent, or 3,428 votes.

“I’m very excited with the confidence people have shown in me. It’s not something that I take lightly,” Davis said.

After being involved in a couple of tight races—his initial election to the position came by a mere nine votes over Billy Wayne Fulmer, and a July party runoff with John Shearon also was decided by percentage points—the tone in Davis’ office in the Chilton County Courthouse was more subdued Tuesday as results began flowing in.

Perhaps more thought was being given to what needs to be accomplished in the next four years as opposed to another election.

Davis said he wants to enforce laws fairly and have an “open door” policy for any resident with a concern or complaint.

“I want to be the sheriff that is willing to take the time…to hear their problems and concerns and address those problems and concerns to the best of my ability,” he said.

Wilson, a Democrat, thanks his supporters and said he plans to pursue the office again in the future.

“We’re going to do it again,” Wilson said.
