Scattered thunderstorms expected for Chilton County

Late spring showers are ahead for Chilton County in the next week with a 30- to 40-percent chance of rain and thunderstorms every day until June 14.

According to meteorologist Aaron Gleason with the National Weather Service in Calera, these showers are average for this time of year.

“We’re going to expect showers and thunderstorms every evening for the next seven days,” Gleason said.

Despite the rain, temperatures are expected to remain in the high 80s to low 90s for the upcoming week, and then continue to rise as the summer season begins June 21.

Gleason said Chilton County is right on track with the temperature range, in comparison with previous years.

“In general, most of our maximums and minimums have fallen in the average range,” Gleason said. “However, our precipitation is a tad bit above average.”

Chilton County has experienced 30.5 inches of rain since Jan. 1, compared to an average rainfall of 26.4 by June 6 for previous years.

That number is expected to rise substantially in the upcoming week as spring showers increase.

“We are definitely on track to have enough precipitation for the year,” Gleason said. “There are no droughts to be worried about right now.”

Temperatures will remain constant on Sunday with a high of 90 and a low of 70. Monday will have a high of 89 and a low of 69, and Tuesday will have a high of 87 and low of 67.
