Quarantine removes VHS boys from county tourney

The opening round matchup between Verbena High School and Chilton County High School in the county basketball tournament has been cancelled.

It was scheduled for Jan. 5 at 7 p.m. but will not be played after Verbena administration informed tournament host Isabella High School that members of the boys basketball team are being quarantined and had to withdraw from the competition.

Chilton County will automatically advance to the semifinals where the Tigers will meet Jemison High School on Jan. 7 at 7 p.m. at the CCHS gym.

The quarantine is not expected to include the Verbena girls basketball squad, which remains slated to play Jemison in the first round on Jan. 4 at 6 p.m. at the JHS gym.

All other games are still proceeding as scheduled.

Tickets for all games must be purchased prior to the game through the GoFan app or website at www.gofan.co.

No tickets will be sold in-person at the gate for any game.

Tickets for the games on Jan. 4 and Jan. 5 will go on sale at 8 a.m. on Jan. 2, while tickets for the Jan. 7 and Jan. 8 contests (excluding the boys junior varsity championship game) will go on sale at 8 a.m. on Jan. 6.

Tickets for the championship games will go on sale at 8 a.m. the days of the games.
