There is a new online system for applying for parade permits. The new system is one of many ways the Clanton Police Department currently has planned to update and improve its operations.

“It’s a digital version of the physical process,” said Captain Neil Fetner. “Now, if we want to do the same parade again, we can quickly go back and see how it was done before.”

The new system will save people the time of going in person to the police station. Now, applicants can go online on their computer or phone and upload an image of their requested route.

The online form explains the process of submitting an application and what can be expected concerning approval or denial. The rules are still the same as they were, except now it is easier to submit an application, and the ordinances concerning parades are available to read alongside it.

Fetner said the new system allows the police to be involved from the beginning of the application process. This is a huge advantage for everyone involved.

“Many people don’t know that there’s a lot more going on than just shutting down a road the day of the parade,” said Fetner.

The CPD has to consider manpower, obtain permits to close roads, and consider public safety when planning a parade. If the department is involved from the beginning, the whole process is much easier, according to Fetner.

The new application process is a full transition to the web, meaning paper forms will no longer be used. Everything will go through the online portal before the CPD’s event coordinator contacts an applicant to discuss their plans.

“We’re trying to work smarter, not harder,” said Fetner.
