Clanton Pediatric to open July 10

Clanton Pediatric is set to open on July 10 and give the residents of Chilton County yet another medical option.

The practice will be located along Lay Dam Road and off Medical Center Drive in the same complex as The Scrub Shop.

The Clanton location will be the third practice owned by Doctors John Sumners and James Rabon, with the other two in Montgomery and Prattville.

“We felt that there was an opportunity to continue to grow in the Clanton area,” practice manager Janet Wheat said.

Katie Jones will be the nurse practitioner at Clanton Pediatric. She lives in Maplesville and has been with the company for eight years.

The staff will start out with four employees, which will transfer from the Prattville location, but already live among the area as well.

“It is neat for them to provide care a little closer to home,” Wheat said.

The Clanton location on Lay Dam Road is just a couple of miles down from St. Vincent’s Chilton Hospital.

“To me that is such a blessing,” Wheat said.

Clanton Pediatric will begin as a one-provider practice, but it has been designed with the hope of quickly growing into a two-provider practice, Wheat said.

As a pediatric facility, it will specialize in providing care to children.

Some of the resources offered as a full pediatric practice include lab services and same-day appointments for sick children. In other cases, appointments are required to be scheduled ahead of time.

According to Wheat, opening a practice in Clanton is something that has been talked about for five years, but the official process of securing the location and preparing it to open has been ongoing since January.

Montgomery Pediatric has been in business for 50-plus years, while the Prattville location has been around for about the past 15 years.

The Prattville location services a lot of children from Chilton County. Many of which have already scheduled and booked for the Clanton location.

“It’s important for us to be part of the community,” Wheat said. “All of the services that I’ve needed have come from the community. Whether it is labs, security systems or food, I am not interested in trying to travel outside.”

Clanton Pediatric will have a ribbon cutting with the Chilton County Chamber of Commerce on July 12.
