Maplesville pavilion work nears completion

Construction work on a new park pavilion in Maplesville is expected to be completed this month, maybe even as early as this week.

The pavilion is being built behind the state rest area on Shanks Drive.

The project was discussed during Maplesville’s Town Council meeting Tuesday.
In other business, the council:

•Hired Britton Langston as a full-time police officer and David Hubbard as a part-time officer.

•Announced final approval for moving the town’s polling location from the fire department to the town library. The change will go effect with November’s general election.

•Declared the old library air conditioning unit as surplus. Part of the unit was sold to the Maplesville Baptist Church for $232.85, while copper and metal from the machine was sold for an additional $315.50.

•Approved Hull & Russell to conduct the 2010 audit.

•Voted to allow the fire department spend up to $600 on supplies and materials to use in schools related to this year’s fire prevention week on October.

•Approved spending $250 to help host CEOs from several Scandinavian companies next month during a trade mission to Chilton County.

The businessmen will be in the county Oct. 13-15, leading up to the Thorsby Swedish Festival and tour each municipality.

•Vote to split the cost of a half-page ad in The Clanton Advertiser highlighting the town’s eight restaurants. Mayor Kurt Wallace said a community member approached him volunteering to pay for half the ad if the town would pay the other half.
