James Spann to speak here Tuesday

James Spann, chief meteorologist for ABC 33/40, will speak at a Chilton County Chamber of Commerce luncheon on Tuesday, Oct. 5 in Clanton.

The luncheon is open to the public and will be held at the Helen Parrish Activity Center of Clanton First United Methodist Church at noon. The cost of lunch is $8 per person.

Chamber Director Mike Robertson said the last time Spann spoke at a Chamber event there was record turnout.

“I believe for a Chamber luncheon that was the biggest crowd we ever had,” Robertson said. “People like him. He’s just a favorite.”

Spann can be seen reporting the weather weeknights at 5, 6 and 10 on 33/40. He first joined the station in the fall of 1996. During his 32-year career as a TV weather anchor, he has also worked for WCFT Tuscaloosa, WSFA Montgomery, KDFW Dallas and two other Birmingham area stations.

Spann is an Emmy Award recipient and has been named Best Weather Anchor in Alabama by the Associated Press 12 times, among numerous other awards and honors.

Robertson pointed out that the chamber now meets every other month. The next major event will be the annual Chamber Open House, scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 7 at the chamber office on Fifth Avenue in Clanton.

Tuesday’s lunch will be catered by Personal Appearance. For more information, call 755-2400.
