Thorsby prepares for fireworks show

For over the past decade the residents of Thorsby have come together the Wednesday prior to the Fourth of July for a celebration God and country.

That tradition will continue Wednesday with the scheduled festivities taking place at Richard Wood Park in the center of town.

The night will begin at 7 p.m. and will be capped of with fireworks once the sun goes down.

Several churches throughout Thorsby come together each year to put on the unique event that combines both religious and patriotic aspects.

“It is the celebration of freedom from a Christian point of view,” said Jennifer Curry, who helps plan the event.

The main difference this year will be the absence of the ice cream judging contest.

However, there will be a variety of new and popular local singers that will provide the night’s entertainment.

“This is one of the advantages that we still have of living in a small town,” Curry said.

Curry advised everyone that is planning to attend to bring lawn chairs, as there is limited bleacher seating available in the park.
