Shooting suspect being held in jail

The Chilton County woman accused of shooting two of her sons, killing one, will remain in jail at least until a preliminary hearing on June 28.

At the time of her arrest on charges of murder and attempted murder, Ann Campbell was on probation for two previous charges, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and disorderly conduct, Deputy District Attorney C.J. Robinson said. Campbell’s probation was revoked, meaning she would serve 150 days in jail.

Campbell was arrested in 2010 on the two charges listed above, Chilton County Circuit Court Clerk Glenn McGriff confirmed.

On June 3, Campbell was arrested after two brothers, ages 11 and 15, were shot in the 3,300th block of County Road 69 in the Enterprise community.

The younger boy, Michael Campbell, died later the same day after being flown via LifeSaver helicopter to Children’s Hospital in Birmingham.

Officials have declined to discuss details of the shootings or possible motives because an investigation is ongoing.

Bond has been set at $250,000 on the charges of murder and attempted murder.

At the preliminary hearing this month before Circuit Court Judge Rhonda Hardesty, Ann Campbell can either challenge whether law enforcement officers had reason to arrest her or accept that the case will go before a grand jury.

Robinson said, in the latter scenario, an arraignment could be expected in early 2012.
