Clark wins DYW program title

L-R: Emma-Caitlin Pitts won second alternate, Brooke Clark won a $1000 scholarship and Leigh Anna Shavers was named first alternate in the Distinguished Young Women Program Saturday night.

Brooke Clark won a $1,000 scholarship and the title Saturday night at the 2012 Distinguished Young Women Program at Chilton County High School.

In addition to the top prize, Clark also picked up several other prizes, including $300 for being the signature winner and $200 and a one-year membership to Cornerstone Fitness and Wellness for winning the physical fitness segment — totaling $1,500 in scholarships.

Leigh Anna Shavers was named first alternate and won a $700 scholarship. She also won the self-expression and Spirit of DYW (voted on by contestants) categories for another $300 in scholarships, totaling $1,000.

Emma-Caitlin Pitts won second alternate and a $400 scholarship. She also won the scholastic and talent segments for another $700 in scholarships, totaling $1100. For her talent, she played Beethoven’s “Sonatina in F” on the piano.

“The program went very well,” said Leslie Deavers, chairperson of the Distinguished Young Women Program in Chilton County. “Each girl did a fantastic job and scores were extremely close.”

Clark will represent Chilton County in January at the state level. That event is held at Fraser Memorial United Methodist Church in Montgomery.

The next Distinguished Young Women of Chilton County Program will be held in July 2012.

“Any girls that will be entering their senior year at that time please consider this fantastic opportunity,” said Deavers.

Deavers would also like to recognize the Alpha Beta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International for their outstanding efforts in putting this program on each year, she said. This is Chilton County’s local chapter of women educators, of which she is president.
