Clanton all-star team looks to rebound at tourney

The Clanton 9-and-under Dizzy Dean all-star team suffered a setback Sunday at the World Series in Jackson County, Ga.

They lost to the Florida state champion, 6-5, but coach Jeff Price said the team could take away some positive things from the loss.

“It was probably the best game we had,” he said. “The Florida team was really good. They had beaten everyone they’d played by 10 runs or more. We just came up short, but that’s how it goes sometimes.”

Price also said he was proud of the effort the Clanton team gave.

“[Our kids] gave 110 percent, so they were a little disappointed,” he said. “[But] we made the top 10 out of 30 teams.”

If the kids were still thinking about the heartbreaking loss today, Price said he didn’t see it.

“I think they’re ready for today,” Price said.

The Clanton team will play a team from Northport at 2:30 p.m. today, and with a win, will play again at 5:30 p.m.
