Christmas Ball set for Dec. 2

Senior Connection will host its Second Annual Christmas Ball on Dec. 2 at its location in downtown Clanton.

The event will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. An extra hour has been added to the scheduled time, after the majority of people stayed past the scheduled end and continued to mingle last year.

“They just did not want to leave, they were having such a good time,” Senior Connection Director Vanessa McKinney said.

One of the main differences from a year ago is that there will not be a theme in connection with the event, other than Christmas.

According to McKinney, the focus is on the season and the festive atmosphere that surrounds it.

The attire for the event is semi-formal, and tickets are just $10 at the door.

“The Usual Suspects” are fresh off playing in the Jazz Festival at Senior Connection less than a month ago, and will provide musical entertainment at the event.

Santa Claus will also take time out of his busy schedule to make an appearance.

Neighborhood Grill will cater the food for the event, and some of the major sponsors include Acme Building Supply, Dr. Ritky Medical Clinic, The Barking Frog, Heart of Dixie Parts, Chilton County Rotary Club, Chilton County Lions Club and Petals from the Past.

Sponsors are always welcome, McKinney said. Businesses interested should call Senior Connection at (205) 755-8227. Senior Connection is located at 304 Park Plaza in Clanton.

The money raised from the Christmas Ball will continue to help Senior Connection chip away at purchasing a bus in the future.

Since Senior Connection opened, it has not been shy about hosting events and helping promote Chilton County as a whole.

However, the Christmas Ball had a very unique feel about it last year, and it continues to grow into the organization’s marquee event in year two.

“They [members] all just pitch in, because it’s just like their home,” McKinney said. “They feel a real sense of ownership here in anything that we do. We’re just a team.”
