The week-long Peach Festival ended Saturday afternoon on the shores of Lake Mitchell at Higgins Ferry Park with anglers from across the state weighing in for the Peach Classic Fishing Tournament.

The annual bass tournament is put on by the Rotary Club of Chilton County. This year’s competition saw more than 35 boats take to the water at first light on Saturday morning in hopes of catching that monster bass and reeling in some of the $2,000 of prize money that was on the line.

After all boats had weighed in, Jerry and Jeff Cook of Prattville took home the top prize of $1,500 with five fish weighing a combined 19.08 pounds.

Jerry Cook also had the “big fish,” weighing in at 5.37 pounds.

Stephen Rogers of Prattville finished in second place with 18.32 pounds, Dewayne Brechin and Larry Bailey of Birmingham came in third with 15.93 pounds, and Michael Headley and Jay Bucklew of Clanton finished in fourth with 14.08 pounds.
