Residents urged to complete broadband survey

The Chilton County Commission is advising its residents to take part in a community broadband survey.

The survey is estimated to take about five minutes to complete and can be found at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe4cURKSmkBfVgb_SzrLrLc-rXH9vKvspJsh7YFnbX90jXwbA/viewform.

According to the Commission, by filling out the survey residents will give a better understanding of the broadband (high-speed internet) needs when it comes to business, education, health and safety and that of private residential uses.

The results from the survey will provide a clearer picture of where the greatest needs exist and the process with which should be prioritized and where designated infrastructural investment should go.

In the survey, broadband is defined as download speeds of 25 or more megabits per second or more and upload speeds of 3 megabits or greater.

Those figures are defined by the Alabama Broadband Accessibility Act minimum service threshold.

Internet service can be provided through traditional phone lines, coax cables, fiber optic lines or wirelessly through satellite, mobile phone or other non-terrestrial options.
