The Clanton Advertiser wins 16 APA awards

The Clanton Advertiser earned 16 awards from the Alabama Press Association during the initial release of the 2018 Better Newspaper Contest results on May 25.

The 16 awards were spread across three platforms with editorial receiving seven, advertising receiving five and magazine receiving four.

The Clanton Advertiser is part of Category B, which includes small daily newspapers from throughout the state.

A second wave of results will be announced during the APA Summer Convention in Orange Beach on July 21.

The Clanton Advertiser received the following awards:

Magazine

  • Second place in best house ad or self-promotion for “Peach Living Best of the Best” by staff
  • Third place in best single photograph for “Fig Grower” in Peach Living by Keith McCoy
  • Third place in best individual website for Peach Living
  • Third place in best house ad or self-promotion for “Subscription” by staff

Advertising

  • First place in best classified page or section for The Clanton Advertiser
  • First place in best niche publication for “Kickoff” by staff
  • First place in best use of humor for “Donkey” by staff
  • Third place in best single ad over ½ page black and white for “Trinity Custom Homes” by Brandy Clackley
  • Third place in best innovative online advertising-single ad for “Diane Knight, Real Estate Associates” by Brandy Clackley

  • First place in best sports photo for “Dirt bike ride” by Anthony Richards
  • Second place in best one time special section-newsprint or glossy for “Progress” by staff
  • Second place in best business story or column for “Sixty years later” by Anthony Richards
  • Second place in best news photo for “Jemison graduation” by Steven Calhoun
  • Third place in best sports news in-depth coverage for “Man and machine” by Anthony Richards
  • Third place in best photo essay for “History in action” by staff
