Teams tune up at IHS 7-on-7 camp

Isabella hosted a 7-on-7 football camp on July 25, in which several local schools took part in.

Jemison, Thorsby, Billingsley and Marbury joined Isabella and worked on improving their passing game.

“It was good to have a lot of local teams come out,” Isabella head coach Tate Leonard said.

Although 7-on-7 camps are designed to focus on airing it down the field, the offensive lineman for each squad also joined and participated in separate drills on another field.

There comes a time for each team, when the players are tired of going up against their teammates and ready to see a different colored jersey lined up across from them.

Real game situations are simulated during 7-on-7 camps, but only to a point, as the players are not wearing pads.

“We had good energy and got to play a lot of guys that I didn’t think we were going to be able to play,” Leonard said. “I was very proud of the younger guys.”

The Mustangs have hosted the event in both years since Tate Leonard came in as head coach.

It is common for most teams to attend at least a couple of 7-on-7 camps throughout the summer.

“We try to go to three or four a summer and host one at our place,” Leonard said. “You get to work on some things over the summer and compete, which is the biggest thing.”
