The Alabama Sports Writers Association All-State Teams and honorable mentions were announced and seven players were recognized between Chilton County, Billingsley and Maplesville High Schools.

Maplesville saw four players recognized including Mollie Kayte Smith, a sophomore, who made the First Team All-State Team. They also had infielder Jaden McGee make the second team, and had three honorable mentions in Kamylia Talley, Kennedy Reed and Hannah Crowe.

Maplesville had success last year making a run to the Class 1A State Softball Tournament, which they will look to build on given that all four of their All-State selected players are sophomores and juniors and will return next year for the Red Devils.

“I was kind of thrilled to see all five of those selected,” said the Maplesville head coach Clark Watley. “Every one of them in that group started starting for me in eighth grade, and we went to the state the last four years and we want to compete for a state championship.”

Sadie Primm from Billingsley also made the First Team All-State Team. This is her second year being on the All-State First Team. She was also selected for All-County last year.

“I stayed to the grind, did the best I could and I thought it went great,” said Primm. “I had a very good year defensively rather than offensively, but I didn’t do terrible on offense, I just did better on defense.”

Primm will continue her softball career on a full-ride scholarship at Marion Military Institute in Marion.

Chilton County saw two players recognized amongst the Class 6A selections. Macey Pierce was selected for First Team All-State and Kaylee Dunn, the daughter of Chilton County head coach Dustin Dunn, made Second Team All-State.

“She’s (Pierce) just a dog out there — probably one of the best third basemen I’ve had the privilege to coach,” said Dustin Dunn. “I just told her I hate that I only got to coach her for one year because I sure would’ve loved to have her for a couple of years.”

Macey Pierce, who totaled 42 career home runs and a .432 batting average according to MaxPreps, does not plan to continue her softball career in college according to Dustin Dunn.

He also had the privilege of seeing his daughter recognized as a Second Team All-State selection.

“I was very proud, she works real hard,” said Dustin Dunn. “She’s one of the hardest kids I know. I’m just glad to see hard work pay off and get a little acknowledgement from it.”
