Kenneth Stevenson was sentenced to 130 years in prison on May 8 for multiple child sex charges after being found guilty in February. The office of 19th Judicial Circuit District Attorney CJ Robinson released more information on the sentencing through a press release on May 12.
In February, a jury in Chilton County found the 36-year-old Alabaster resident guilty of first-degree rape, first-degree sodomy, two counts of incest, two counts of first-degree sexual abuse and two counts of enticing a child for immoral purposes after a two-day trial. The victims in the case were 13 and eight years old at the time of the crimes, and through investigation, prosecutors were able to prove Stevenson sexually abused both victims on different occasions. Also, on at least one occasion, Stevenson “sexually abused the victims at the same time and forced them to commit sexual acts on one another,” the press release from Robinson’s office said.
“It is never easy to take on a case of this type and spend hours reviewing evidence and witness testimony of such sickening criminal acts,” Robinson said. “I am grateful to the Jemison Police Department for their investigation and the work of the professionals at Butterfly Bridge (Children’s Advocacy Center), alongside the efforts of the prosecutors, victim service officers and investigators in our office who tirelessly worked to ensure justice was served.”
Circuit Judge Joy Pace Booth sentenced Stevenson to a total of 130 years in prison for his crimes during sentencing. Stevenson received 35 years for both the first-degree rape and first-degree sodomy charges, and also two 10-year sentences for each count of incest. The sentences will run consecutively to each other, resulting in Stevenson truly serving 100 years in prison. Stevenson also received 40 years for the lesser charges he received, and those will run concurrent with each other, but consecutively to the Class A felonies.
“The strength it took for the victims to stand up to this monster is unimaginable, and they are heroes,” Robinson said. “The facts of this case should disgust us all, and if the death penalty were available as a punishment for his crimes, he 100% deserves it … But Judge Booth has sent a strong message, and 100 years behind bars will definitely keep him from hurting another child.”
