The Jemison Police Department put an end to an exploitation scheme on the elderly with the arrest of a local senior living facility owner. JPD arrested the owner and operator of Bella Wood Senior Living (149 First Avenue, Jemison) Taneshia Brown and charged her with first-degree financial exploitation of an elderly person, a Class B felony.

The Birmingham resident was accused of the unauthorized receiving and spending of money from the bank account of a 76-year-old resident of the senior living facility. JPD launched an investigation into the accusations, and evidence showed Brown either received or spent thousands of dollars from the account.

JPD investigators said there is a possibility of other victims who Brown could have stolen from, and their investigation into that is still ongoing. JPD asked anyone with information about the case or any other suspicious incidents concerning Brown and the facility to contact Jemison Police Deputy Chief Marc McMinn at 205-576-6773 or marc.mcminn@yahoo.com.
