Maplesville High School’s Jaden McGee is this week’s athlete of the week for the week of May 2-8 after her performances at the Class 1A Central Regional Tournament on May 7-8. McGee was the standout for the Red Devils at the plate throughout the tournament to help propel them to the AHSAA Class 1A State Softball Tournament.
McGee was perfect in game one against Keith High School on May 7 and opened her tournament going 3-for-3 with a double, an RBI and four runs scored. She continued her momentum later in the day against Woodland High School going 2-for-4 with a triple, a two-run homer and four RBIs.
With the tournament championship on the line on May 8, McGee responded again against Fayetteville going 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.
Honorable mention: Macey Pierce, Chilton County High School
When Macey Pierce was on during the Class 6A Central Regional Tournament, she was unstoppable. After a 0-for-2 effort in game one, she responded against McAdory High School with her first hit coming in the second half of back-to-back home runs with Kaylee Dunn to take a 5-3 lead in the seventh inning after being down 3-1.
Pierce was 0-for-3 against Hueytown, but she responded again the next game against Calera with a 4-for-4 effort and two home runs. The first, a three-run shot in the fifth inning to take a 6-3 lead, and the second, a two-run, game-winning homer in the sixth inning to put the Tigers on top 9-8. Pierce had six RBIs in the game.
