The Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles held a handful of hearings so far this April with Chilton County offenders involved.

First, on April 9, Andrew Wayne Martin was denied parole by the board but received a reset date of April 1, 2030. Four people spoke against Martin being granted parole during the hearing — Ruth Coker, the victim’s grandmother, Wana Davis with VOCAL, Jackie Fowler with the Attorney General’s office and Joshua Cochran with the 19th Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s office. Martin is currently serving a 20-year sentence for a Sexual Abuse I arrest in Chilton County on Nov. 5, 2018. Martin has currently served six years, 11 months and 22 days of his sentence with 187 days of jail credit included, and he has a minimum release date of May 1, 2038 unless granted parole prior.

Secondly, on April 10, William Donald Avery was denied parole by the board but received a reset date of April 1, 2027. Avery had no one speak in favor or against him being granted parole during the hearing. Avery is currently serving a 76-month sentence for a Burglary III arrest in Chilton County on Nov. 3, 2021. He is also serving multiple sentences concurrently including Theft of Property III, Possession of Controlled Substance and Unlawful Breaking and Entering a Vehicle charges. Avery has a long criminal history in Chilton County with arrests in the county dating back to 2006. Avery has currently served three years, 10 months and seven days of his sentence with 166 days of jail credit included, and he has a minimum release date of Oct. 10, 2027.

Lastly, on April 17, the board held two hearings involving Chilton County offenders, the first granting parole to Jimmy Keith Baker. Jessica Baker, his wife, spoke in favor of parole being granted. Parole was granted to Baker with the special conditions to complete the Perry County Probation/Parole Reentry Education Program (PREP), wear an ankle monitor, register with Alabama Experience (ALEX) and complete a drug assessment. Baker was serving a 60-month sentence for a drug offense arrest in Chilton County on Nov. 18, 2024. When he was released, Baker served six months and 19 days of his sentence with 159 days of good time included.

The second hearing involved Cristian Bardomiano-Martinez with the board denying parole, not receiving a reset date and no one speaking in favor or against him receiving parole. Martinez is currently serving a 13-year sentence for an Assault I arrest in Chilton County on Jan. 25, 2024. Martinez has currently served one year, 11 months and one day of his sentence with 1,075 days of good time received included. Martinez has a minimum release of Aug. 21, 2027.
