Thorsby High School’s Aiden Seeley is this week’s athlete of the week after his performances during the week of April 18-24. Seeley battled in the first round of the AHSAA Class 3A State Baseball Playoffs against Lee-Scott Academy on April 18-19 to help the Rebels stave off elimination and force a decisive game three.

After a 2-1 start in the first inning of game one, Lee-Scott blew the game open with the next 16 runs to win 18-2. Seeley was a modest 1-for-2 with an RBI collecting one of Thorsby’s four hits in game one. Rebels head coach Drew Wood saved his ace pitcher for game two in the must-win or clinching scenario, and it was a must-win for Thorsby. Seeley got the ball on the mound for game two only minutes after the thrashing in game one.

In game two, Seeley started shaky giving up a double on the first Lee-Scott batter of the game. Later in the opening frame, two runs came across to score by way of errors in the Rebels field putting Thorsby in a 2-0 hole early. It was from that moment that Seeley was absolutely locked in.

Seeley gave up just two more hits over the next six innings — a single in the second inning and a double in the fifth inning, to allow Thorsby to get back into the game. While it took till the fifth inning, the Rebels finally broke through to cut the lead in half, and in the sixth inning, posted a three spot to take the win 4-2.

Seeley’s performance was one of the all-time best for Thorsby’s baseball program in the state playoffs, throwing a complete seven innings with three hits, 2 runs (both unearned) and striking out 12 Lee-Scott batters. Thorsby lost in game three to end their season, but the performance from Seeley on the bump in game two put a great silver lining on the series.
