New beginnings are here for The Bread of Life Food Pantry in Clanton as the ministry found its new home at Clanton Church of Christ on Lay Dam Road. One of the biggest proponents of lowering the food insecurities in the county over the last few years, Bread of Life will be housed at 1111 Lay Dam Road, Clanton to continue to serve thousands of residents.

“It has been a huge blessing for them to step up,” Greg Nobles, Bread of Life founder, said. “They came down to meet us and they said ‘We are all for this, we think everybody should be feeding the people in the community and we will support you 100%.’ They have been really good.”

After the reshuffling of the building at 300 Park Plaza, Clanton, Bread of Life was looking for a new home. The ministry began in June 2022 during a time when Chilton County was among the three counties the Heart of Alabama Food Bank in Montgomery wanted to get more food into because of a lack of food pantries in the area. Behind Bread of Life’s effort, Chilton County is now no longer on that list giving away 5,000 pounds of food each week when things are its busiest.

“We are just glad to be able to get back to giving people food because we have gotten such huge blessings the two and a half years before now, and we thoroughly enjoy it,” Nobles said.

Bread of Life is currently in the process of securing 501(c)3 nonprofit organization status, as well as in the process of raising funds to build their own building for the food pantry. Around $75,000 is left to be raised, but Nobles assures the building will be on the ground soon to further enhance the ministry.

Bread of Life Food Pantry is open every Thursday from 3:30-5 p.m., and the pantry gives away frozen and dry foods, fresh produce and baked goods.
