“Over the four years, my goal is to be the best I can be.”
Isabella High School’s Austin Porter signed with Huntingdon College to play baseball at the college level on April 8. The senior will make the short trip down Highway 82 to continue his baseball career, which played a big factor in his decision.
“(Huntingdon) is pretty much all I ever wanted,” Porter said. “It is close to home, just a short 45-minute drive away, and the campus is beautiful. They have had some great seasons recently.”
Porter was a multi-sport athlete at Isabella playing baseball, basketball and football, but baseball always reigned supreme since he started playing when he was three years old. He excels at every aspect of the game from pitching, hitting and fielding, and Porter will primarily be a middle infielder at Huntingdon but could see some time on the mound.
“At the plate I feel like I have more confidence, and pitching is not really my thing, but I picked it up this year more than I have in the past,” Porter said.
Isabella head coach Dustin Green’s constant preaching of comradery and picking up teammates made an impact on Porter during his time in the program. He wants to take those lessons, and others learned, to Huntingdon’s program to grow into the best baseball player he can be.
“Just being a good person in general they preach that here (at Isabella),” Porter said. “Do things right in the classroom and do things right on the field, everything like that they teach here.”
Porter signed his letter of intent alongside fellow Isabella senior and Huntingdon College signee Garrett Price who signed to play football at the school.
