The Relay for Life Queens and Swedish Queens in Chilton County volunteered their time and provided residents with new pillowcases at the American Cancer Society Joe Lee Griffin Hope Lodge in Birmingham in March.
The two sets of queens cooked and served patients and their caregivers at Hope Lodge — a facility where individuals receiving cancer treatments can stay at no charge for the patients or their families made possible by funds raised through Relay for Life.
Also, the Blackberry, Chilton County and Strawberry Queens joined the Relay for Life and Swedish Queens to participate in Pillow Fight for a Cure — a 10-year running initiative that was originally started with the Relay for Life Queens.
“These queens gave their time to learn how to make a pillowcase for a patient at Hope Lodge,” Sunny May, Relay for Life Coordinator, said. “Each patient was so appreciative and loved picking out the pillowcase they wanted.”
The initiative provides specialty made pillowcases for cancer patients by the queens.
