Hank Roberts is this week’s athlete of the week for March 14-21 after claiming three bronze medals at the track meet at Sylacauga High School on March 14. The standout sophomore track athlete at Isabella has been a regular in the postseason in the spring track season for the Mustangs the last few years, and he looks poised to do so again this season.
Roberts’ Sylacauga meet started with a podium finish in the 800-meter run that saw him clock in at 2:24.44, just a fraction behind second place at a 2:24.18. Roberts backed that up with another podium finish in the 1600-meter run with a 5:42.74, good enough for third place. Arguably Roberts’ best event is the javelin throw, and he claimed his third bronze medal in the meet with a 115-2 throw. Roberts was the only underclassman in the top-11 finishers in the javelin throw.
Honorable mention: Mason Truesdale, Billingsley High School
Truesdale is rounding into fine form for the Bears, and he had his best game of the 2025 season on March 18 against Isabella High School. Truesdale came up one out shy of a complete game, but went six and two-third innings while surrendering just three hits, no runs, four walks and striking out a season-high 15 batters.
After 19 strikeouts through his first three starts of the season, the senior has 25 strikeouts in his last two games with 10 coming against Autauga Academy on March 8. Truesdale also drove in a run against Isabella going 1-for-4 at the plate.
