Maplesville High School’s Nehemiah McCary is this week’s athlete of the week following his performances against Billingsley and Francis Marion High Schools from Jan. 31-Feb. 6. McCary’s performances were among the best across Chilton County during the area tournaments including his first triple-double of the season.
McCary helped the Red Devils clinch their spot in the sub-regionals with a 41-34 win over Billingsley on Feb. 1 in the semifinals of the Class 1A Area 7 Basketball Tournament at Francis Marion High School. The freshman standout posted a double-double in the win with 12 points and 18 rebounds, and was only four blocks away from a triple-double with six swats.
With a sub-regional spot already in their back pocket, the Red Devils took on the hosts on Feb. 3 looking to get home court for the sub-regionals. McCary turned up his game and got his triple-double in the 49-46 win in the area final over Francis Marion. McCary posted 17 points to lead the team while adding 16 rebounds and 10 blocks for his first triple-double of the season. The games in the area tournament were McCary’s ninth and 10th double-double of the season.
