The beloved local student musical Blast From the Past is back in Chilton County, and tickets are currently available for the three performances from Feb. 21-23. Students from all of the six high schools in the county come together each February to perform classic songs from various ages of history. Everyone who comes out is bound to hear one of their favorite songs from the past with various genres of music being performed by the students and led by coordinator Sheri McKee.
There are currently 25 songs on the docket that will be performed by the students. They range from Elvis Presley’s 1956 hit “Heartbreak Hotel” to Taylor Swift’s 2019 song “Paper Rings,” and many years in between. The song list includes “King of the Road” by Roger Miller, “Turn on the Radio” by Reba McEntire, “Wannabe” by The Spice Girls, “Since You’ve Been Gone” by both Kelly Clarkson and ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic and more.
The first two performances will be at 7 p.m. on Feb. 21 and 22, and the third performance will be at 2 p.m. on Feb. 23 all inside the auditorium at Chilton County High School. Tickets are currently being sold in advance of the performances and are available now for $10. Tickets will also be available in person an hour before each performance. There is reserved seating, so the earlier a ticket is purchased the greater the selection of seats there will be. Tickets can be purchased at Chiltonblast.booktix.com
There will be 125 students involved with the Blast From the Past program this year from singers, dancers and the production crew. All proceeds raised through Blast From the Past goes towards scholarships for seniors from each school who participated in the performances. Last year, Blast provided $6,000 in scholarships to seniors in the production and more than $2,000 to repair lighting in the auditorium at CCHS.
