AOTW: Buendtner punches in three scores for Thorsby in homecoming win

Thorsby High School’s Chris Buendtner is this week’s athlete of the week for Sept. 13-19 following his performance against Wilcox Central High School on Sept. 13. The junior running back had arguably his best game of his career for the Rebels in their homecoming win going for 109 yards on 10 carries and getting into the end zone for three scores. Buendtner’s performance helped Thorsby earn the 42-12 win, get them back to .500 on the season and move to 2-0 in Class 3A Region 3 play. He also made five tackles on defense.

 

Honorable mention: Isaac Stoudemire, Verbena High School

Stoudemire burst onto the scene for the Red Devils in their 40-32 Class 1A Region 4 win over Billingsley High School with 114 yards on just six carries and two touchdowns. Stoudemire averaged 19 yards per carry against the Bears, giving Verbena another stout runner in the backfield to add to their growing arsenal. He was also the leading tackler on the Red Devils’ defense with 11 stops.

 

Honorable mention: Caleb Short, Verbena High School

Another running back that showcased what he can do for Verbena was Caleb Short who ran for a game-high 117 yards against Billingsley on 13 carries and two touchdowns.

 

Honorable mention: Roman Hall, Maplesville High School

Red Devils’ running back Roman Hall continued his hot start to the 2024 season with another 100-yard game in Maplesville’s 51-20 win over Notasulga High School on Sept. 13. Hall was a workhorse running for 194 yards on 25 carries and three touchdowns.
