Chilton County High School had two of its cheerleaders, Anna Kathryn Baker and Belle Richardson, sign scholarships on May 21. Baker will attend Troy University while Richardson chose to attend Shelton State Community College.

Baker, who has been a mainstay in the CCHS cheer team since her ninth-grade year, was described by CCHS cheerleading coach Sjohna Hughes as an extremely hard worker and vital part of the team last year. Hughes has been the CCHS cheerleading coach for one year.

“Anna Kathryn was always a positive role model and she always had good energy,” Hughes said. “She was willing to go that extra mile and she was a great asset to the cheer team. She worked super hard on her skills to be able to make it to Troy. I think she will go far because she has a positive mindset and she is willing to put in that extra work.”

Richardson was one of the Tigers’ best tumblers according to Hughes. She was also their go-to flyer throughout last season. Richardson will join a school with a rich history in competitive cheerleading, a background she is familiar with doing that outside of the CCHS program for a bit as well.

“I think (Richardson) will have some really good success and she has really worked hard,” Hughes said. “She was one of those vital parts of the team that you could always rely on to have the advanced skills. I think going to Shelton State she will be a good asset to their team because they go and compete, and hopefully she can win some championships while she is there.”

Baker and Richardson were joined by family and friends during their signing in the CCHS gymnasium.
