The Clanton Beautification Board made a slight tweak to their spring beautification contest that will crown five winners across the city of Clanton. One winner from each district will be chosen now on June 22 as the original date of June 19 was moved back.

Homes and businesses will be judged off of a 100-point scale that includes — 10 points for landscaping, 10 points for variety of color and plants, 10 points for neatness of home and yard, 20 points for grooming and pruning, 10 points for structure and appearance, 10 points for creativity and 40 points for overall appearance. The scoring system was also tweaked from the one that was previously released.

Before the contest arrives, the board will be hosting a citywide clean-up week from June 5-9. The city of Clanton will provide orange trash bags that residents can pick up from city hall starting on May 30. Regular guidelines on materials that will be disposed of will be followed. Items that will not be collected includes tires, paint, hazardous materials such as medical waste, no tree over 10 inches in diameter and propane gas tanks or cylinders.

The city of Clanton will run an accelerated schedule to collect excess items, and some collections will run into the following week. Clanton Mayor Jeff Mims is encouraging Clanton residents to use this week as an opportunity to clean up their yards in time for the summer months.
