Armissie Carroll of Clanton celebrated her 104th birthday on May 4.

Arguably one of Chilton County oldest residents, she said the years went by “before I knew it.”

Carroll was born in 1919 in Black, Alabama. After marrying Theron, she moved to Dothan in the 1940s.

“My daddy had a store out in the country, and he sold it and moved to Dothan,” Carroll’s daughter Gale Cleckler said. “He had a wholesale candy company.”

She had a health scare in 2005, which prompted the need for her to move to Hatley Health Care and be closer to her daughter. Carroll became involved in the Hatley community, serving as the resident council president for several years.

She has enjoyed making crafts throughout her life and continues to create things today. Carroll said she enjoys it because she can “sit down and forget everything.”

“She has done all kinds of crafts, and used to sell them,” Cleckler said. “She was a beautician way back and had a shop.”

Caroll had also previously been a member of a garden club.
