CCHS lands both golf teams in sub-state, Jackson and Harrison advance

Chilton County High School’s boy’s and girl’s golf team both qualified for the Class 6A sub-state round of the state playoffs on May 1 at Ol’ Colony Golf Course in Tuscaloosa. The boy’s team shot a combined 348 to finish fourth at the Class 6A Section 2 tournament. Ethan Jones was the low scorer for the Tigers shooting an 82. The team defeated Pelham, Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa and Benjamin Russell high schools to advance to the sub-state round. Along with Jones, Stephen Mahan, Aiden Cleckler, Jack Coats and Carson Stone will represent the Tigers at sub-state on May 8 at Capitol Hill Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in Prattville.

The girl’s team also qualified for sub-state, and Catherine Stone and Ella Young will go to represent CCHS as individuals. Stone led the way shooting a 96, and Young shot a 108. Lily Kate Mure also competed at sectionals for CCHS and shot a 101.

Jemison High School’s Ben Jackson qualified for the Class 5A sub-state round as an individual for the Panthers. Jackson shot an 86 at the AHSAA Class 5A Section 2 tournament at the Demopolis Country Club on May 2. Jackson will travel to Gulf Shores on May 9 for the sub-state tournament at Craft Farms Golf Course.

Maplesville High School’s Evan Harrison qualified for the Class 1A sub-state round as an individual for the Red Devils. Harrison shot an 85 at the Class 1A Section 2 tournament at the Highland Park Course in Birmingham on May 1. Harrison will travel to Cambrian Ridge Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in Greenville on May 9 for the sub-state tournament.
