Verbena High School’s Jaycee Quinn is this week’s athlete of the week after her performances during the week of April 22-26. Quinn recorded a hit in all five of the Red Devils’ games this week including four games with multiple hits.

“(Jaycee) is definitely a key player for us, and she has outstanding work ethic,” Verbena coach Geoffery Lockhart said. “When she is in the circle, she is dominant, and everyone in the county knows that. She is a vital part of what we do.”

Quinn saved her best for last on April 26 going 4-for-4 with a double, home run and two RBIs against Jemison. She added seven strikeouts on the mound, and had 11 more throughout the week. Quinn’s second home run of the week came on April 22 against Isabella going 2-for-3 with a double and four RBIs to go with the long ball.

Quinn’s performances have her rounding into a good form with the AHSAA Class 1A Area 6 Softball Tournament just around the corner on May 2-3.

“We feel pretty good (going into the tournament),” Lockhart said. “We are feeling confident, and as long as we go out there and play error free ball we should be pretty good.”

Verbena’s journey begins on May 2 against Billingsley High School at 3 p.m.
