Chestnut Creek Heritage Chapel is bringing back its traditional spring event with a concert by Reunion from LaFayette scheduled for April 22 at 6 p.m.

“We are very excited about being able to (have a concert again),” Ola Taylor of Chestnut Creek Heritage Chapel said.

Many events had been put on hold because of the pandemic, including the large, spring event that the heritage chapel held every year. This year, the group felt it was time to bring it back.

Taylor said she had heard the group at last year’s homecoming at her church, Verbena Methodist.

“Our minister Jody Hill came from over on the east side of Alabama, and he grew up with some of these people over there, so he brought a group to our church, and we enjoyed them so much that when we had a chance to finally schedule a big singing again, I suggested that we use them,” Taylor said.

A donation to the heritage chapel is allowing them to offer the concert to the public for free.

“We want everyone to just come out and have fun,” Taylor said.

Reunion is primarily a gospel group, but also performs fun songs from a variety of genres. The concert will be something the whole family can enjoy.

“At our homecoming, they did ‘Stand by Me’ and they did a little Elvis, a little rock and roll,” Taylor said. “They are very good musicians in addition to vocalists … They are just jolly people.”

Chestnut Creek Heritage Chapel is located at 11975 County Road 24 East in the Coopers/ Verbena area.

The Chestnut Creek Heritage Chapel board is mostly people who have an ancestor buried in the nearby Chestnut Creek cemetery. The chapel had formerly been a church, and the heritage chapel board has committed to preserving the building and some of the history of the area. Taylor said the major structural repairs that had been needed have been complete, and the group is now turning its attention to cosmetic improvements.
