Chilton County High School’s three game winning streak on the softball field came to an end on April 10 as the Tigers fell to Holtville High School 8-7 at home. A late rally for CCHS tied the game going into the last inning, but Holtville was able to push across the winning run to edge out the win.

The Tigers scored two runs their first trip to the plate starting with a Mallie Harrison sacrifice fly, and followed by an Anna Cate Burnett RBI single. Harrison collected her second RBI in the third inning as she led off with a solo home run to center field to make it 3-0. Harrison was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate.

However, Holtville scored the games next seven runs to take a commanding 7-3 lead with the Tigers having only six outs to work it. A rally was in the works as Chloe Shiers plated a run on an RBI double, and Maecie Driskell followed directly behind with an RBI single to cut the deficit in half.

Later in the inning, Gracie Brewer converted on an RBI single, and the Tiger trailed by just one run with the bases loaded. Lily Benson was discipline at the plate and earned a walk to tie the game at seven. Macey Pierce was 3-for-5 with a double, and Brianna Goggins and Shiers each had a double as well. The Tigers had 14 hits as a team.

Harrison was in the circle again for the Tigers and was the winning pitcher in all three games during the winning streak. Harrison is a contact pitcher and does not strikeout a lot of hitters, which means the defense behind her will see more balls in play.

Harrison’s final line was seven innings pitched with 11 hits, eight runs, but only three were charged to her as earned. She sat down two Holtville hitters.

In the eighth inning, Holtville roped a double and an ensuing single plated the winning run to take the 8-7 win.
