The Jemison City Council unanimously approved an amendment to the 2022-2023 fiscal year budget during its March 20 meeting.

The amendment adds expenses for the city improvement project for personnel-related expenses and improvements to city hall ($56,145.09), the streetscape sidewalk project for a portion of Main Street ($190,811.63) and purchasing property ($141,000). A total of eight parcels of property are being purchased on Hotel Street for future recreational development.

Additional revenue was also accounted for in the amendment. The city transferred in $32,469.41 and added $64,487.31 from an Alabama Department of Transportation refund from a previous project.

The council also unanimously declared eight vehicles from the police and fire departments to be surplus, so the vehicles could be sold. Proceeds from the sale will go back to the departments. The oldest vehicle was from 1997, and the newest vehicle was from 2017.

Also during the meeting, council member Donna Manasco was selected as the council’s voting delegate for the Alabama Municipal League annual business meeting, and April 24-28 was set as the Spring Cleanup for the city of Jemison.
