Tigers win fifth straight on the diamond

Chilton County High School’s baseball team moved to 6-1 on the season with an 11-1 thumping of Pelham High School on March 1 at Jack Hayes Field. Every Tiger hitter in the lineup recorded a hit, and Aiden Bee walked Pelham off in five innings.
“Our whole lineup contributed with great success,” CCHS coach Ryan Ellison said. “We hit the ball well, had some great base running reads, and, overall, it was a well-played game by our guys.”
As well as ending the game, Bee got things started for CCHS in the first inning with a two-RBI double to make it 2-0. Bee was 2-for-4 with three RBIs. A Colton Brock RBI double and Tre Fulmer RBI single made it 4-0 Tigers through two innings.
Meanwhile on the mound, Cannon Miller had another impressive outing throwing five innings of three-hit baseball giving up just one unearned run that Pelham got in the third inning on an error. Miller walked on batter and struck out six, and did well filling up the strike zone with 47 of his 67 pitches hitting the zone.
“Cannon has been outstanding on the mound for us in his outings this year, and he continued that,” Ellison said.
The CCHS bats continued to ring true in the fifth inning posting five runs to stretch its lead to 9-1. J.D. Terrell was the other CCHS hitter with a multi-hit game going 2-for-3. Logan Bice had two RBIs for the Tigers as well.
“We have a great bunch of guys, and every time their name gets called they are ready to go,” Ellison said. “They continue to come out every day and give their best effort, and it is showing.”
Needing two runs to end things early, Miller laced an RBI double, and Bee’s RBI single walked Pelham off.
The win is the Tigers fifth straight after losing its season opener.
“If you think about it as winning each pitch … You do not look at the big picture because the big picture will take care of itself, if you take care of the little things on the way to get there,” Ellison said.
CCHS is back in action on March 4 with two games at Jack Hayes Field starting at 11 a.m. against McAdory High School. The Tigers face West Blocton High School at 4 p.m. later in the day.
