Auditions to be on a film set are closer than one might think for Chilton County.

Local independent filmmaker David Gentry of Door Number 3 Films is holding auditions for small parts and extras in “Fall Boy,” a horror-comedy about a boy and his once girlfriend turned ghost, on Feb. 19 at 500 Fifth Avenue N in Clanton at 1:30 p.m.

“I am looking mostly for older teens and young adults, ages 16 through … 24,” Gentry said.

In the movie, the characters will be high school students, so high school students and those who look that age are welcome to audition. Adults older than 24 can audition for the teacher and police officer minor roles.

Those hoping to have a spot in the film will be auditioned on a first come first serve basis.

For the minor character roles and bit parts, the audition will include reading a script and demonstrating acting.

Gentry and the casting director will decide who would be best for each role.

“A lot of these roles don’t actually have speaking lines … so it will be a matter of you walk in, what were you looking at, what were you thinking about, and I can tell you where I would place you,” Gentry said.

Each person would then decide if that is something they are interested in doing, if so, their name and information will be put on the list. Extras will provide background atmosphere to the scenes. Gentry said there is the potential for needing as many as 50 extras for the film.

Filming is expected to begin in late March or early April. A short version of the film, “Fall Boy – Pilot Short,” has already been released on YouTube.

“It is pretty much an introduction to the main characters and the general plot and feel of the movie that we are getting ready to make,” Gentry said.

“Fall Boy” has received investment from the Clanton City Council and crowdfunding through Kickstarter.

“I hope that this film that we make can help get Chilton County and Clanton some … more recognition,” Gentry said.

Creating a fanbase that would want to come visit Clanton to see the filming locations is also a hope.

“That would be really cool,” Gentry said.

Gentry said he was thankful to Clanton Mayor Jeff Mims, the Chilton County Arts Council and the City of Clanton Arts Council for their support of the project
