Jefferson State Community College’s Red Mountain Reading Series is coming to the Chilton-Clanton campus on Feb. 7 at 2 p.m. in Room 104.

This free event will feature four Jeff State employees reading some of their original writings as a part of the Clanton campus observance of Black History Month.

Clanton psychology instructor Dr. Jeff Pouncey will be joined by employees Dianna Hyde, Aaliyah Moore and Maurita D. Ward from other JSCC campuses. Each of the readers will also talk about the writing and self-publishing process. Audience members will have the opportunity to ask questions.

“We are really excited about it,” Heather Wyatt, coordinator for the reading series for this year, said.

The Red Mountain Reading Series brings authors from all over to JSCC campuses to present to students and the community.

“We try to get as many different voices as we can,” Wyatt said.

This event will be the first time featuring JSCC employees as the guest writers

“It has just been great to kind of have something to look forward to after the pandemic,” Wyatt said of the series this year. “We are having in-person meetings now and … getting that connection to students and then reaching out to every campus.”

There is also a virtual attendance option through Zoom. Registration for virtual attendance is required at  https://jeffersonstate.zoom.us/meeting/register/tJErdeChqTwoGN0XjEMtnTc6wa8UHM4UV6BT
