Holly Matson has been named the new principal for Thorsby High School.

Matson is replacing Cory Clements, who was elected to Chilton County Schools superintendent.

Matson is moving up from the assistant principal position at the school.

Maston, a THS alum, said she wanted to move into the principal position because she loves the school.

“I graduated from Thorsby knowing that I wanted to be a teacher and be able to give back to the school that had given so much to me,” Matson said.

During her teaching career, her “love for teaching led into a passion for leading,” Matson said.

“When this position opened up, I felt like God had opened another door for me to serve in an even bigger role,” she said.

She is looking forward to continuing to work with the school’s faculty and staff to serve students and the community.

“I hope that under my leadership that my faculty, staff, and students feel safe, empowered, and supported,” Matson said. “I hope to build a community of people that want to pick each other up when someone is down, hold each other accountable with high expectations, and strive to be better today than we were yesterday. I fully believe that positive attitudes lead to positive outcomes.”

Prior to her four years as assistant principal, Matson taught elementary school for seven years, three of which was at Thorsby.

“I became interested in a career in education because I knew that it would give me an opportunity to work with our youth and be a positive influence in their lives,” Matson said. “Helping others learn and grow has always been a passion of mine; and in the field of education, I not only get to help others, I get to learn and grow with them.”
