Mayor Robert Hight and the Thorsby City Council recognized the reigning Strawberry Queens at its Jan. 17 meeting for their service to the community. Young Miss Harper Cleckley, Tiny Miss Ellie Clark and Little Miss Macie Lovelady were given certificates from the council to thank them for their community service and wish them the best in their future endeavors. Miss Starr Woods was absent from the meeting.

Thorsby Municipal Judge Craig Cleckler requested a defense attorney to be at each court session in the future and to approve two attorneys. Phillip Price and Levi Walker were approved unanimously by the council as the defense attorneys who will be available during court sessions.

The Thorsby Police Department requested the hire of Brandon Walker as a full-time police officer, and it was approved unanimously by the council. Walker makes six full-time officers at TPD. An additional reserve officer for TPD was also approved unanimously by the council.

A motion for Thorsby to participate in the 2023 Severe Weather Tax weekend from Feb. 24-26 died on the floor due to lack of motion.
