Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

2023 is upon us, and if you are like me, it seems to be here out of nowhere. 2022 was the fastest moving year of my life by far, and I think the transition to Chilton County was a huge part of that. The constant stress and worry about deadlines and making sure all of my areas of coverage are kept up to date has kept me on my toes and left me wondering where the time has gone. In just one month, it will be my one-year work anniversary.

New Year resolutions are a fun thing for everyone this time of year. Some people use them for personal growth. Some use them to grow their business, and some use them to just be a more well-rounded person. Resolutions should not be something that hangs over your head like a dark cloud all January until you finally give up and break the resolution. It should be something that you truly think will benefit you or something you really want to do.

For me, my first New Year’s resolution will be to slow down. With things moving seemingly at a thousand miles per hour, in 2023, I want to take some time and enjoy what I am doing more. I love getting to write about sports as a job. Getting to see the ins and outs of how all these different high school sports programs in Chilton County operate is really cool to see, and I want to take more time this new year to appreciate those things and savor them.

Secondly, there are a couple of bucket list things I want to do in 2023. Tops is to go to Opening Day at Oriole Park at Camden Yards for the Baltimore Orioles first home game of the season. Next, is to go to one of the NASCAR races at Atlanta Motor Speedway. I have been to every NASCAR track in the southwest, except Atlanta, and I am going to change that this year by going to either the March 19 or July 9 race. Finally, I want to make it to Cooperstown, New York in 2023 and visit the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame Museum. I have not had the privilege to go to Cooperstown yet, and I have been avoiding it to a certain extent because I am not ready yet. Taking in the entire history of Major League Baseball would be an overwhelming feeling and something I need to prepare for, which I plan to do in 2023.

New Year’s resolutions are not for everyone, and one should not feel pressured to come up with one just because everyone else is. The best resolutions are ones that come naturally to the mind and they will serve a greater purpose in one’s life than just a pact.
